OF SOULS AND STARSHIPS: SELF-ACTUALIZATION IN J.J. ABRAMS’ STAR TREK

INTRODUCTION

The twentieth century gave birth to a vast array of technologies that changed the world.  From automobiles to air travel, the international community was brought closer as people were afforded the ability to cover great distances in record time.  Man walked on the moon, spit the atom, fought two world wars, and invented the computer and the internet.  These advances fueled economic expansion, spread ideas at an incredible pace, and reshaped the cultures of nearly every nation on earth.

THREE VIEWS ON THE DOCTRINE OF ELECTION

The concept of election is one that is found throughout the witness of the Old and New Testaments.  For many, the word itself conjures up feelings of angst over theological debates that have raged for centuries. Exegetes and theologians have written extensively on the matter, and much of the debate has been civilized.

THE ORIGIN OF THE SOUL

INTRODUCTION

Holy Cursing - An Analysis of the Imprecatory Psalms in the Christian Life

INTRODUCTION

The Christian Bible has served as a source of inspiration, instruction, and revelation for nearly two millennia.  The Hebrew Scriptures, or Old Testament, which comprise nearly eighty percent of the Bible, have done the same for much longer.  The contents of its pages have been used as material for hymns, consolation for the suffering, and criteria for attaining and maintaining a right relationship with God.  The centerpiece of the Old Testament is the book of Psalms.  The Psalms contain a variety of literature that has been placed into categories such as hymns, complaints of the people, complaints of the individual, thanksgiving songs of the individual, royal psalms, and wisdom psalms.[1]

Book Review - Knowing Jesus through the Old Testament, by Christopher J. H. Wright

INTRODUCTION
In his book, Knowing Jesus Through the Old Testament, Christopher J. H. Wright argues that a complete understanding of the person and work of Jesus is dependent upon an appreciation of His understanding and relationship to the Old Testament.  While the subject matter and Wright’s presentation are captivating, the theological ramifications of his assertions range from deeply thought-provoking to troublingly unorthodox.

Law and Grace

INTRODUCTION
The Bible, to many of its critics, is a book of legalistic, unrealistic principles imposed by a demanding God.  To others, it is the ultimate declaration of liberty.  Still others see a book whose pages seem to contradict each other.  Since the time of Christ, the question of how to reconcile the principles in the Old, that is, the law, with the message of grace presented in the New has been debated.

Roger Williams - ProtoAmerican Hero

INTRODUCTION

The history of the creation of the United States of America, as taught and understood by a great number of modern Americans, goes something like this:  In 1620, pilgrims fled King James’ England aboard the Mayflower to escape religious persecution.  They settled in what would become Massachusetts and celebrated the first Thanksgiving.  They abused the natives of the land and farmed, and flourished.  More settlers arrived, and English taxation in the colonies became so severe that, in the mid-1700s, a revolution was sparked.
